ZAGREB, Jan 3 (Hina) - U.S. Defence Minister William Perry voiced
optimism as regards the development of the IFOR operation in
Bosnia-Herzegovina. Speaking at today's press conference in Tuzla
Perry said all warring parties were complying with the peace
agreement. #L#
The warring parties were actively cooperating with IFOR and it
was a very positive sign, Perry told the conference, which he held
together with NATO chief commander in Europe, General George
Joulwan and the commander of the U.S. force Joint Chiefs of Staff,
John Shalikashvili.
Perry, Joulwan and Shalikashvili talked with U.S. IFOR
soldiers. After the meeting, Gen Shalikashvili described their
morale as very high.
The kidnapping of 16 Bosniacs in the Serb-controlled Sarajevo
suburb of Ilidza was not IFOR's responsibility but something police
forces should deal with, Perry stressed.
Two weeks ago, bad weather hampered the construction of the
Zupanja-Orasje pontoon bridge. 'Bad weather has not ceased yet and
we still have a lot to do on the bridge' Perry said.
The problem of mine-sweeping would not be solved this week or
this month, Perry said, adding the cooperation with all three sides
in Bosnia as regards this problem was very good.
