In a statement given after the talks, Pasalic described the
meeting as very successful adding that the two sides had reached an
agreement on the cooperation mechanism on the level of county and
party leaders.
Reporters were told that the meeting had also tackled the
problems the solution of which both sides are interested in -
ranging from the problem of organisation of local administration and
self-government, the issue of amnesty, to the question of the
functioning of the media, education and health institutions.
Pasalic announced a meeting on education issues for tomorrow.
The meeting will be chaired by Jure Radic.
Pasalic also announced the organisation of meetings which
would focus on all other issues, so that the process of peaceful
reintegration of the Danube river region could be accelerated.
SDSS President Vojislav Stanimirovic said that the HDZ
councillors have to live and work in the Danube river region, and
not in Zagreb or Osijek.
Speaking about the problems relating to the Amnesty Law,
Stanimirovic said that there were no official lists of war crimes
suspects, but only a list of 25 people who were ready to appear
before the court and the procedure of which would be repeated.
Asked about the completion of the mandate of the
U.N.Transitional Administration in Eastern Slavonia, Stanimirovic
said that the mandate ends on 15 January next year, but that one
should wait and see in what form the international community would
continue its presence in the area.
HDZ secretary general Ivan Valent said that five main
questions had been discussed at today's meeting. The two delegations
had reached a higher level of understanding on most of the topics
than expected, Valent said.
A smaller number of unsolved questions remained to be dealt
with, including the media and the return of displaced people and
refugees, which would be tackled at next meetings, he said.
SDSS President Stanimirovic said that the Serb community in
the Danube river region would ask to be granted a concession for the
work of one TV and two radio stations.
