KUPJAK, Nov 27 (Hina) - House of Counties Speaker Katica Ivanisevic
on Thursday opened the Delnice-Kupjak stretch of the future Rijeka-
Zagreb highway.
The section, nearly eight kilometres long, includes two tunnels of
the total length of 1,445 metres, two viaducts of the total length
of 560 metres and a passage for wild animals.
With the construction of the highway, the distance between the
northern Adriatic port city of Rijeka and the capital Zagreb will be
reduced from the current 180 km to 147 km.
The opening ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Zlatko Matesa,
Transport and Communications Minister Zeljko Luzavec,
Reconustruction and Development Minister Jure Radic and Director
of the state-run road company Hrvatske Ceste Aleksandar Caklovic.
"This road is one of the infrastructural projects which integrate
Croatia," Matesa said, adding that "it can be said with certainty
that the government's promise to open the whole highway to traffic
by the year 2,000 will be fulfilled."
