UNTAES BELIEVES SCHOOL BOYCOTT CANNOT RESOLVE PROBLEMS ( Editorial: --> 9641 )

( Editorial: --> 9641 ) VUKOVAR, Nov 10 (Hina) - The UNTAES does not believe the boycott of school classes is the right way to resolve education issues in the UN-administered part of eastern Croatia, assistant UNTAES spokesman Douglas Coffman said Monday. The boycott was not helping pupils, Coffman said on UNTAES radio in relation to a decision of Serb parents in the Danube river region of eastern Croatia not to send their children to school. Coffman said the UNTAES was aware that some problems did exist. The UNTAES would continue to discuss them with local Serb representatives and Croatian government officials and hoped they would be resolved soon, he added. Parents of pupils attending classes for the Serb minority on Friday announced a boycott of classes until all their conditions are met with. These include the replacement of non-Serb headmasters by the Croatian education ministry with Serb ones. (hina) ha jn 101618 MET nov 97
