ZAGREB, Nov 10 (Hina) - Regular passenger and cargo railway
transport between Croatia and Yugoslavia will be established on 11
November with the inaugural opening of the Vinkovci-Sid railroad,
Croatian Railways managing director Marijan Klaric told Hina
Monday.
This was in line with an agreement on border railroad transport
signed by representatives of Croatian and Yugoslav Railways in
Zagreb on 21 October, Klaric said, adding the agreement regulates
transport through border stations and the Vinkovci-Tovarnik
(Croatia)-Sid (Yugoslavia) and Vinkovci-Erdut (Croatia)-Bogojevo
(Yugoslavia) railroads.
An inaugural train will leave Vinkovci at 10.00 hours for Sid, where
a press conference will be held.
Two pairs of passenger trains connected to the interior of both
countries, one pair of regular cargo trains and one pair of extra
cargo trains will run along the Vinkovci-Tovarnik-Sid line in line
with the current 1997-1998 timetable, Klaric said, adding
equipment and staff will be provided by Croatian Railways.
Two pairs of local passenger trains will run on the Vinkovci-Erdut-
Bogojevo line and one in the opposite direction. Croatian Railways
will provide equipment and staff, while Yugoslav Railways will
provide equipment and staff for a local passenger train on the
Bogojevo-Erdut route, with connections for trains on the Erdut-
Vinkovci route.
A pair of cargo trains will run along the Bogojevo-Erdut line and
back, with connections for trains on the Erdut-Vinkovci line,
Klaric said.
Asked about the organization of cargo transport, Klaric said all
technical measures and conditions had been arranged. International
criteria would be strictly complied with and transport payment
issues had also been settled, he added.
Speaking about direct passenger and cargo international trains
passing through Croatia and Yugoslavia, Klaric said it was agreed
for one pair of fast trains to run along the Munich-Zagreb-Belgrade
route, with stops in Ljubljana, Zagreb and Vinkovci for trains to
and from Geneva, and one pair of fast trains on the Zurich-Zagreb-
Belgrade route. These trains would start running as of 23 May 1998,
in line with the 1998-1999 timetable, Klaric concluded.
