BONN, Oct 8 (Hina) - A Croatian parliamentary delegation headed by
parliament speaker Vlatko Pavletic visiting Germany on Wednesday
held a meeting in Bonn with members of the Bundestag's foreign
policy committee, representatives of the German parliament and the
head of federal chancellor's office, Fridriech Bohl.
After talks with members of the foreign policy committee,
Pavletic said talks were open and about all issues, adding the
Croatian delegation assessed some processes in Croatia were not
proceeding as planned due to objective circumstances.
Pavletic said the Croatian delegation explained to the hosts
why Croatia thinks the UNTAES mandate should end 15 January 1998.
They told them reintegration in the Danube river region of eastern
Croatia was full-blown, in health, education, financing, the
judiciary. The extension of the mandate would mean non-respecting
the efforts made by the Croatian government, he added.
The Croatian delegation also informed the German
parliamentarians about the government's programme on the restoration
of trust.
The talks also focused on the recent voluntary surrender of
ten Bosnian Croats to The Hague war crimes tribunal which, according
to Pavletic, the German welcomed, but also warned this showed the
imbalance in what Croatia was doing in the implementation of the
Dayton peace accord and what other signatories and the international
community were.
Commenting on his talks with Bohl, Pavletic said they focused
on the implementation of the Dayton and Washington peace accords.
We asked Bohl to use his influence among those circles in the
international community which are stopping credits to Croatia,
Pavletic said.
Bohl, he added, said Germany was in particular interested for
a successful democratic and economic development of Croatia.
Talks with German parliamentary representatives focused on all
current issues relating to Croatia, Pavletic said, adding concrete
assistance, especially in mine-clearing, has been offered.
The Croatian delegation met with understanding especially as
regards the economic connection between Germany and Croatia. The
necessity of better information about Croatia was pointed out,
especially in relation to possibilities of investing.
