SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF NEW ARCHBISHOP OF ZAGREB

ZAGREB, Oct 4 (Hina) - The new Archbishop of Zagreb Msgr Josip Bozanic was born in Rijeka in 1949. He completed grammar school in Pazin and attended the Faculty of Philosophy and Faculty of Theology in Rijeka, Zagreb and Rome. He received a degree in theology in Zagreb and a masters degree in dogmatics. He also received a licentiate in Church Law from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. He was ordained as a priest on the island of Krk in 1957 and was a diocesan secretary from 1975 to 1976. From 1976 to 1978 ha was the Krk parish vicar. He has been a professor at the school of theology in Rijeka teaching Canon law and dogmatic theology since 1988. He was nominated as Coadjutor bishop of Krk in May 1989 and was ordained in June 1989. He became the bishop of the Krk diocese on 14 November 1989. Bozanic performed several duties at the Croatian Conference of Bishops, he was member of the Permanent Council of the Croatian Council of Bishops, president of the commission for relations between the Church and state, president of the Council for lay persons, member of the Bishops Commission for the Pontifical Croatian Institute of St. Jerome in Rome.
