JOSIP BOZANIC INSTALLED AS ARCHBISHOP OF ZAGREB

ZAGREB, Oct 4 (Hina) - The newly-nominated Archbishop of Zagreb, Josip Bozanic, was on Saturday installed as the Archbishop of Zagreb at a ceremony at the Zagreb Cathedral. The former Archbishop of Zagreb, Cardinal Franjo Kuharic, resigned and Archbishop Msgr. Josip Bozanic, the former Bishop of the island of Krk, has taken over command of the Zagreb archdiocese. After the Apostolic Letter was read, by which Pope John Paul II nominated Bozanic as the archbishop of Zagreb, Cardinal Franjo Kuharic handed him the pastoral staff, rendering Msgr. Bozanic the 76th Bishop of the Zagreb archdiocese in its nine centuries-long history. Cardinal Kuharic and Msgr Bozanic addressed the gathered during the ceremony. Present at the ceremony were all Croatian Archbishops and bishops, priests and friars of the Zagreb archdiocese, bishops from Bosnia-Herzegovina and other neighbouring countries, Apostolic Nuncio to Croatia, Giulio Einaudi, as well as representatives of the Croatian authority, members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of other religious communities. 041308 MET oct 97
