VUKOVAR, Sept 10 (Hina) - Assistant Reconstruction and Development
Minister Ljudevit Herceg met Director of the Centre for the Reconstruction
and Development of the Danube Region Ivan Krstanovic in Vukovar on
Wednesday to discuss the process of registration of houses in the UN-
administered area and reconstruction of those damaged by war.
Herceg told reporters that 17,600 houses had been registered in 46
settlements. About 20 per cent of the registered houses are heavily
damaged, 50 per cent suffered minor damage while about 30 per cent are
intact but occupied by Serbs, he added.
The registration of houses in Vukovar and Beli Manastir will begin
after September 15.
Herceg said that the government would earmark 45,000 kuna (about
DM12,800) for the reconstruction of a single house in a lower damage
category and would provide essential furniture.
He said that his ministry would send furniture to Ilok for about 40
returning families.
About 85 houses have so far been repaired in the villages of Bilje and
Marinci, so that displaced persons will be able to begin returning there
soon.
