A Parliament representative Petar Cobankovic and Ilok mayor
Stipan Kraljevic informed the U.S. Ambassador about the current
situation in the town.
The local authorities in Ilok, where many Serbs from other
parts of Croatia are living, support the two-way return of Croat
and Serb refugees.
Recalling that before the war Ilok was well known for high-
quality wine, the representatives of Ilok authorities said that
the displaced should be enabled to take over their vineyards and
other arable land.
The peace agreement is based on the principle of general
right to return and property, Galbraith said. It is important for
the members of the Transitional Police to be neutral and
professional, he said adding that UNTAES could help the owners of
vineyards to return and start tending their land.
