TRAVNIK, Aug 4 (Hina) - "The overall security situation in Jajce is under
control", Central Bosnia Canton prefect Ivan Saric told reporters Monday
morning. "Sufficient security forces are there, and I have been assured by
their leaders that no dramatic turn could occur", he added, speaking in
relation to incidents that took place in Bosniak (Muslim) villages around
Jajce yesterday. The situation concerning the Bosniaks' non-agreed mass
return to Jajce was "far from dramatic", Saric pointed out.
There was no information about any killings mentioned in Bosniak
media, the prefect said, adding this was one-sided information of the
Federal Interior Ministry and the Federal Ministry for Refugees and
Displaced Persons.
Saric pointed out perpetrators of any criminal acts, if there had been
any, would be legally prosecuted.
The prefect of the Central Bosnia Canton said he would go to
Sarajevo if invited by international high representative for BH Carlos
Westendorp. "It will be an opportunity to outline arguments and seriously
decide what is in the common interest of Croats and Bosniaks concerning
the return of Bosniaks to Jajce, but also Croats to Travnik, Bugojno and
other places in the canton", Saric said, pointing out the return would have to
be arranged, mutually complied with and safeguarded.
Prefect Saric also reported about incidents apparently
"spontaneously" caused by an organized group of Bosniaks, which included
persons wearing Mujahideen fighters uniforms and which yesterday
prevented 150 displaced Croats from Guca Gora to take part in a mass
held there. Guca Gora is a village in central BH with a well-known
Franciscan sanctuary, where before the 1993 exodus about 2,500 Croats
lived. No Croat lives there now.
There existed reasons for an open, thorough and argumentative
discussion, Saric stressed, adding the Croat side in the Central Bosnia
Canton would soon make public a project called "open canton", which
should, among else, initiate a phase-return of all of the canton's refugees.
