CONTACT GROUP CONSIDER PUNITIVE ACTION FOR NON- COMPLIANCE WITH SIN

COMPLIANCE WITH SIN $ TRA DEADLINES SARAJEVO, Aug 1 (Hina) - The top international peace administrator in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Carlos Westendorp, on Friday notified Contact Group member-states' representatives of punitive measures which might be taken against parties in Bosnia-Herzegovina due to their failure to respect deadlines set at the May conference in Sintra, Portugal. A spokesman for Westedorp's office, Duncan Bullivant, said that a meeting of the Contact Group was held in Sarajevo on Friday morning and that the meeting's participants would inform their governments in the course of the day about proposed measures. Another meeting is due to be on Friday evening in the Bosnian capital as well after Bosnia-Herzegovina's collective Presidency and Council of Ministers hold their sessions. Bullivant said it was not very likely that agreement on contentious issues might be reached at those sessions. The disputable questions refer to appointment of Bosnian ambassadors, to laws on citizenship and passports and to control over civilian air traffic. According to Bullivant, little has been done for two months after the Sintra conference was held. He added that the Bosnian parties were told that in case of non- compliance with the deadlines set at the Sintra gathering punitive measures would be taken, but they were not told what it meant concretely. A list of possible sanctions has been drawn up in the past two days by international representatives who are involved in implementation of the peace accords, but the contents of the list have not yet been disclosed.
