BRCKO, Aug 1 (Hina) - The fifth seminar on media in a row took place at the
McGovern camp in Brod, the suburb of Brcko (northern Bosnia) on
Thursday. The focus of the seminar was the promotion of cooperation of
radio stations in the Bosnian Federation and Republika Srpska. #L#
The seminar was chaired by US armed forces Major Andrew
Schober, and was attended by representatives of the Office High
Representative in Brcko, Suncica Loncarevic and Raz Bazala, and a
representative of the International Police Task Force (IPTF), Kathy Ladun.
The seminar's guest was American journalist Dr. Bolling.
The discussion focused on two ideas, the need for a neutral
information medium which had been found in the "Mir" (Peace) radio station,
and for which an editorial board had been proposed, consisting of
representatives of the local media and of the international community; and
the final decision on objective informing, which would be reached by an
expert group on behalf of the international community.
This group of experts would assist the radiostation.
Loncarevic informed the attendants about the preparations for the
founding of a media centre in Brcko. According to her, besides Internet and
other local media in the Bosnian Federation and Republika Srpska, the
centre would include newspapers from the neighbouring countries Croatia
and FR Yugoslavia.
Major Schober announced the next meeting in Brcko in 14 days.
