INCIDENTS TAKE PLACE IN BOSNIAN SERB-HELD TOWNS

SARAJEVO, July 24 (Hina) - A Dutch soldier of the Stabilization Force in Bosnia-Herzegovina was on Wednesday evening wounded in Kotor-Varos, a Serb-controlled town in north-western BH, after two persons threw a hand grenade. The grenade was thrown at four Dutch soldiers who were repairing an armoured vehicle which suffered damage after sliding off the road in Kotor-Varos, SFOR spokesman John Blakeley told reporters in Sarajevo on Thursday. About half an hour after they started repairing the vehicle, two obviously drunk, plain-clothed men approached them and one of them threw the hand grenade, Blakeley said. The shards hit one soldier who suffered light injury and was taken to a hospital in Novi Travnik, he added, pointing out the soldier's life is out of danger. Other SFOR members succeeded in catching the attacker who had thrown the grenade, while local Serb police later arrested his accessory, Blakeley said, adding that currently both are detained in Kotor-Varos. Local police launched an investigation, he said. Yesterday, NATO soldiers also reacted to an attack in Bratunac, eastern BH, where a vehicle carrying UN license plates was demolished, the SFOR spokesman said. According to UN spokesman Aleksandar Ivanko, as yet unknown perpetrators fired two shots at a UN vehicle parked near the Bratunac building accommodating members of the International Police Task Force. No one was injured, he added, but the vehicle was completely destroyed. We consider this a very serious attack, Ivanko said, but do not believe this was part of an organized campaign against representatives of the international community in BH. According to a previously issued statement by the high representative's office in BH, international organizations will hold Bosnian Serb authorities responsible for all incidents which take place in their territory, and will not justify excuses about spontaneous acts.
