ZAGREB/BUDAPEST, July 9 (Hina) - Croatian Interior Minister Ivan Penic
and his Hungarian counterpart Gabor Kuncze signed two treaties in
Budapest on Wednesday. The treaties refer to cooperation of the two
countries' police in protection against natural and civilian disasters
and the passing of the border by official persons who work in the other
country.
Under the treaties, the two neighbouring countries have the
obligation to inform each other and help in case of natural disasters,
and to enable official persons to pass the border where there is no
border crossing, according to Croatian Television's central news
broadcast.
Treaties that we had already signed were implemented successfully,
and both parties did everything against the organised crime, the
Hungarian Interior Minister Kuncze said. He added that Wednesday's
agreements would help protect residents as well as facilitate the
passing of the border for people who are in service in the other
country.
Minister Penic said he had informed his Hungarian counterpart of
the reorganisation of the transitional police in Croatia's eastern
Slavonia, Baranja and western Sirmium. He added that 12 Croatian
employees of the Interior Ministry were now attending education and
training courses in Hungary.
In Budapest, the two ministers discussed a series of security
questions important to Croatia and Hungary, and considered possibilities
of the return of about 1,900 Croat refugees in Hungary to Baranja and
eastern Slavonia.
