SARAJEVO, June 24 (Hina) - Investigators of international police in
Bosnia-Herzegovina (IPTF) have conducted a thorough probe to check a
large number of complaints about Sarajevo Canton police's abuse of
detained persons, and established that most of complaints were
groundless.
A Briton, Derek Cake, who led the investigators' team, said on
Tuesday in the Bosnian capital that they had checked all 29 complaints
submitted since the beginning of 1997. Only in seven cases police
overstepped their authority when they used unnecessary physical force.
The investigator Cake said that police had never harassed the
arrested persons because of their ethnic origins.
The canton interior ministry has been asked to take disciplinary
action against responsible policemen.
