HEAD OF OSCE MISSION IN BH FROWICK VISITS MOSTAR

MOSTAR, July 23 (Hina) - The head of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina and chairman of the Temporary Election Commission in BH, U.S. Ambassador Robert Frowick, on Wednesday held separate meetings with Mostar's Bosniak (Muslim) and Croat city authorities, and Herzegovina-Neretva Canton authority representatives. During the day he also chaired a session of the advisory council of parties which shall take part in the BH September municipal election. Mostar is a particularly important town, Frowick told reporters, which shows all the complexities of OSCE's activity in BH. The election in Brcko (Bosnian Serb-controlled town in north- eastern BH) has not been postponed, Frowick said. There are many problems there, he added, such as the violation of OSCE rules and regulations concerning the registration of and voting by displaced persons. We decided to stop that process and registration has begun anew, which will prolong preparations, but will ensure that the election in Brcko does take place, said the U.S. Ambassador. According to Mostar Mayor Ivan Prskalo, he informed Frowick about the Croat side's complaints concerning elections in Mostar's central zone which, Prskalo thinks, cannot be envisaged as a local election unit. Prskalo's deputy Safet Orucevic made a request to Frowick to check registrations of a larger number of displaced Croats from all parts of BH to vote in Mostar. (hina) ha 232115 MET jul 97
