KLEIN PROLONGS DEADLINE FOR DINAR ACCOUNTS IN CRO DANUBE REGION

VUKOVAR, July 19 (Hina) - The UN transitional administrator for the Danube region of eastern Croatia, Jacques Klein, on Saturday forwarded a letter to the president of the Joint Municipalities Council, Milos Vojnovic, informing him about the prolongation of transitional measures referring to money transfers transformation. As he points out in the letter, Klein's decision comes into effect immediately, in order to facilitate the continuation of the work of local enterprise and banks, this in view of their reintegration into Croatia's economic and legal system, and with the task to advance reconstruction and development in Croatia's UN-administered area. The period of transitional measures, introduced in line with Klein's 9 May decision and referring to the transformation of money transfers, is prolonged, as Klein points out in the letter, until the transitional administrator decides otherwise, but not longer than 15 September 1997. In the said period, local banks and enterprise which currently operate in the UN-administered area will have permission to operate without limitations and regardless of their current status of registration with the Trade Court, the letter says. They will be able to keep their dinar accounts (Yugoslav currency) at the Money Transfers Institute, and clear their demands and obligations with entities in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, the letter added. A joint committee including representatives of the Croatian National Bank and the UNTAES Civil Affairs Office is to meet on 5 August to, according to Klein's letter, check on parallel mechanisms of the kuna (Croatian currency) and the dinar account, and make appropriate recommendations for further business operations.
