VUKOVAR, July 15 (Hina) - The UN-administered Danube river region will
be reintegrated into the Croatian energy system by August 15, the
coordinator of the state-run electric company HEP, Ivan Mravak, said in
Vukovar on Tuesday after signing an agreement on the employment of
workers with a regional electric company.
Mravak told reporters that HEP and the UN Transitional
Administration (UNTAES) had signed a declaration in June under which the
Croatian power system would be restored in two phases.
The first phase, during which the regional power system would be
disconnected from that of neighbouring Yugoslavia, should be completed
by August 15 and the second by October, until which time two 110 kV
power transmission systems and several 35 kV ones should be operational.
Mravak said that damage to the electric power installations in the
region was estimated at USD 165 million and that repair work would begin
next week.
