"At today's first meeting with the representatives of Vukovar
hospital, which was held after several months of unsuccessful attempts
to reintegrate the institution, I presented my proposal on the
reintegration of the hospital into Croatia's health system, which can be
implemented only if Croatian laws are strictly followed. Local Serb
representatives will consider my proposal and present their answer at a
meeting which is to take place next week in Zagreb," Hebrang said after
the meeting which was held behind closed doors.
Hebrang also proposed that the present illegal hospital
administration submit a list of necessary medicaments and equipment
which Croatia would provide, regardless of the pace of reintegration
talks.
Croatia would open another office for health insurance in the
Danube river region, so that the local population could exercise their
right to health insurance. Hospitals in Vinkovci and Osijek would
receive patients with acute illnesses from the Danube river region 24
hours a day, Hebrang said.
Another big problem was the number of employees currently working
in Vukovar hospital and health centre, Hebrang said, adding that the two
institutions had more employees than was allowed by the law.
Thanking Hebrang for his offer of help in medicaments and
equipment, the head of the current illegal Vukovar hospital
administration Rade Popovic said that the employees would respect the
law, but proposed 'a one-year moratorium on the reintegration of the
hospital.'
