ZAGREB, June 11 (Hina) - Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Ljerka Mintas-
Hodak met a Council of Europe delegation in Zagreb on Wednesday to
discuss the opening of an information and documentation centre in the
Croatian capital and different aspects of cooperation with this oldest
European political association.
The information and documentation centre will be the Council of
Europe's institution in Croatia which will develop all kinds of
activities in the domain of public relations, education and making
people sensible to the main principle and values of the Council of
Europe, such as human rights, the rule of law and pluralist democracy,
the Deputy Director of the Council's Department for Political Affairs,
Jean Louis Laurens, told reporters after the talks.
Mintas-Hodak said that they also discussed obligations Croatia had
signed at the time of accession to the Council of Europe, stressing that
"Croatia will fulfil those obligations within a period of one year."
Laurens said that he received from the Croatian side very positive
information on the meeting of those commitments, particularly on the
future ratification of the European Convention on Human Rights and other
important conventions of the Council of Europe concerning the protection
of human right and the rule of law.
