EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT DELEGATION VISITS VUKOVAR

VUKOVAR, June 18 (Hina) - A delegation of the European Parliament's Committee for South East Europe headed by its president Doris Pack, on Wednesday visited the UN-administered Danube region of eastern Croatia, as part of a three-day visit to Croatia. In Vukovar, the delegation held talks with UN's deputy transitional administrator for eastern Slavonia, Souren Seraydarian. Explaining the reason of her visit to war-ravaged Vukovar, Pack told Hina she wanted to show her European Parliament colleagues the consequences of the 1991 bombings. She wanted them to see what had happened so that they could understand why Croats opposed the Serbs' return, she said. Pack trusted the Croatian leaders and the common people were ready for a two-way return and the normalization of living. The common people, both Croats and Serbs must, together with the Croatian Government, fight against those who cause difficulties and do not care for the welfare of either Croats or Serbs, Pack said. Serbs have lived here for a long time, and unfortunately done a lot of harm, Pack said, adding it must not be forgotten, but must be forgiven. Croats must be open and accept those who have not done harm, because criminals will probably not stay in Croatia, Pack said, adding that perhaps they have already left.
