After a tour through the factory, the delegations held talks with
the representatives of the Croatian Privatisation Fund in Vinkovci. The
visit to the factory and the talks in Vinkovci were also attended by the
current illegal management of 'Borovo' from Vukovar.
Petrus Fredericus Johannes Rademaker, director of 'Bata Industrials
Europe', told reporters after the talks he could say nothing about
Bata's concrete plans concerning 'Borovo'.
The visit of 'Bata' representatives to Croatia had been agreed on
earlier with Croatia's former Economy Minister Davor Stern, Rademaker
said. 'Borovo' had originally been a 'Bata' plant, established in 1930,
Rademaker said.
'We hope that our two companies will establish business relations,
especially in the production of leather footwear, but those relations
will not be established so soon', 'Borovo' general director Vladimir
Husar said.
The value of 'Borovo' in 1990 amounted to some 600 million German
marks. It is estimated that the war caused damage amounting to 70% to
80% of the company's value, Husar said.
