Explaining the reasons for the amendment of the text of the
President's oath, Assistant Administration Minister Antun Palaric said
that after its amendment the oath would better express the
constitutional position of the President as a state leader and be in
line with Croatia's tradition.
With the adopted amendment, the text of the President's solemn oath
before the Croatian Constitutional Court on the day he takes over his
office would end with the sentence "So help me God".
During a half-hour discussion, the bill was supported by working
bodies, while representatives of opposition party benches criticised the
bill, saying they saw no reason for the change of the text of the oath.
