PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE'S ATTACKER PLACED IN INVESTIGATIVE CUSTODY

PULA, June 10 (Hina) - The Pula County court issued a statement Tuesday saying that Tomislav Brzovic had been placed into investigative custody. The Municipal State Attorney's Office in Pula requested an investigation to be launched against Brzovic for suspicions that he had committed a punishable act of violence. Brzovic physically attacked Croatian presidential candidate Vlado Gotovac in Pula on 5 June. The county court said the investigative judge had questioned Brzovic after which he had decided to place Brzovic into one-month investigative custody, because of the danger of him repeating the punishable act. Croatian citizen Tomislav Brzovic, also known as Beba, was born in Sujica (Bosnia-Herzegovina) in 1992, he is a professional soldier of the Croatian army, with permanent residence in Zagreb and temporary residence in the Monumenti barracks in Pula, the statement said. The Municipal State Attorney Josip Miletic told a press conference in Pula on Tuesday that Brzovic was inclined to violent behaviour. The sentence envisaged for an act of violence against another person was up to eight years in prison, Miletic said. He added that the Municipal State Attorney's Office had suggested to the Pula County Court that all Gotovac's medical records be obtained, as well as an expert medical opinion about the types and extent of Gotovac's concussions. Miletic said Brzovic had been a member of the Croatian army since 1991 and had been given medals on several occasions, including for participation in military operations "Flash" and "Storm".
