There is not one reason why one strong person could not be appointed
to the post of city mayor by the time of the Pope's arrival. All political
parties in the Federation have to cooperate so that progress could be made
in that area, Murphy told a press conference in Sarajevo.
An agreement, signed last week by representatives of five political
parties, which are to have representatives in the City Council, provides for
the election of mayor and his two deputies as well as other bodies of city
authority by 10 April at the latest.
The mandate of the city mayor was won by the strongest political party
- the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) - but so far, the party has not
publicised its candidates.
Murphy asked that political games be stopped and that Sarajevo be
given permanent natural gas supply.
Neither the Federation nor Republika Srpska have fulfilled their
obligations or paid gas bills and common people are the ones to suffer most
because of that, Murphy said.
