INTERNATIONAL ADMINISTRATOR FOR BRCKO ARRIVES IN BOSNIA

SARAJEVO, March 28 (Hina) - US diplomat Robert Farrand arrived in Sarajevo on Friday to prepare for assuming office of temporary civilian administrator for the Brcko area of northern Bosnia-Herzegovina. A spokesman for the Office of the international High Representative, Duncan Bullivant, said that in the next few days Farrand would hold talks with Bosnian government and international officials and that he would leave for Brcko in the middle of next week. Farrand was authorised by the international arbitration commission on the temporary status of Brcko to oversee the creation of conditions for the return of refugees and displaced persons to the Sava river town and to ensure respect for human rights. UN spokesman Alexander Ivanko said that 15 countries had already offered personnel for an international police force that should monitor the work of Serb police in the town. Ivanko added that the largest number of police officers had been offered by the United States, France, Germany and Jordan. (hina) vm 281407 MET mar 97
