barracks for the needs of the Osijek University 'Josip Juraj Strossmeyer'
was signed tonight in Osijek in the presence of the Croatian President
Franjo Tudjman. #L#
The contract was signed by Vice Premier and Technology and Science
Minister, Ivica Kostovic, Interior Minister Ivan Penic, Education and Sports
Minister Ljilja Vokic, Deputy Defence Minister Kresimir Cosic and Osijek
County Prefect Branimir Glavas.
Thanking President Tudjman and the attending ministers for their
participation in creating the conditions for the signing of the contract,
Prefect Glavas said that the contract marked the beginning of the
demobilisation of Osijek and the transfer of army units and special police
out of the city.
'The contract enables the beginning of the construction of a modern
university in Osijek', Glavas said.
Stressing the importance of the contract, President Tudjman said that
the Croatian army should be a shield protecting the Croat people, but also
participate in building the country's social, cultural and scientific life.
