BILDT'S OFFICE DISSATISFIED WITH TRIAL OF MOSTAR POLICE OFFICERS

SARAJEVO, March 24 (Hina) - Deputy to the International High Representative for the implementation of the peace agreement in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Michael Steiner, informed the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan about the trial of three police officers suspected of having taken part in the incident in Mostar on 10 February. Steiner stressed that the procedure before the west Mostar court had had nothing to do with justice, High Representative's Office spokesman Colum Murphy said on Monday, stressing that Steiner's letter to Annan said that justice had not been served, the case was not closed, nor would the international community set it aside. #L# The international community would observe the problem closely until the suspects were put on trial for the acts they had in fact committed, Murphy said. According to him, this first of all meant proceedings before a court which would abide by internationally accepted standards of law. Murphy also said that the federal partners were asked to implement the agreement about the organization of Sarajevo as a city community as soon as possible, adding that the process could be completed before the Pope's arrival in the capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
