KLEIN DELIVERS LIST OF 150 PERSONS NOT PROTECTED BY AMNESTY LAW TO

TO $ SUSA VINKOVCI, March 17 (Hina) - U.N. Transitional Administrator of the Croatian Danubian Area, General Jacques Klein, on Monday delivered the Croatian Government's list with 150 names of persons form the Danubian area, who are not covered by the amnesty law, to the "secretary of justice and administration" in the area, Vojin Susa. In order to protect privacy of individuals, Klein requested Susa that each person, whose name is on the list, should be separately informed of that, by March 25, said a statement by the UNTAES public relations office in Vukovar. UNTAES has been working hard to create conditions for enabling members of the Serb community in Croatia to stay under conditions of security and dignity. In order to lessen anxiety of the population, unjustified assumptions and rumours about war criminals, UNTAES received from the Croatian Government the list with 150 names of persons who have been indicted, in absentia, either for crimes or for international humanitarian law's violation. The Croatian Government guaranteed to the UNTAES that the list was complete and would not be enlarged, according to the UNTAES statement. The remaining 99.9 percent of the population, who will not be informed of the list, can regard themselves as fully protected by the Croatian amnesty law. Those 150 persons on the list will be notified of indictments against them and of possible procedures under Croatian Law. They will be informed of their rights to have a free-of-charge defence attorney, the right to have a lawyer who will survey material evidence and the right to defend themselves in court to refute charges. The "justice secretariat" in the area will be a centre where people from the list can ask legal and other counsel and where they can hand over their material evidence that may help acquit them on charges, the statement said at the end.
