TUDJMAN RECEIVES KLEIN, REPS OF LOCAL SERBS FROM CRO DANUBIAN AREA

DANUBIAN AREA ZAGREB, Feb 17 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on Monday received UN transitional administrator Jacques Klein and representatives of local Serbs from the Croatian Danubian area Vojislav Stanimirovic, Rade Arbutina and Jovan Rebrac, the President's Office said in a statement. Klein informed Tudjman that the UN centre in New York received favourably the scheduling of elections in the Croatian Danubian area for 13 April, at the same time as throughout Croatia. Klein was confident all preparations for the elections would be completed in time. Stanimirovic thanked Tudjman for the understanding expressed in the Croatian Government's Letter on the Completion of Peaceful Reintegration. Tudjman pointed out that Croatian authorities were completely ready to implement the Letter. You may be sure that there would be no revenge seeking on the part of legal bodies of authority with the establishment of the Croatian legal system in the Danubian area, the Croatian President pointed out. The talks concluded that it was necessary to issue a list of local Serbs from the Danubian area suspected of war crimes as soon as possible, in order to settle uncertainties among the local population. It was also decided to consider proposals in relation to the organization of local self- government. An appeal was made to the representative of the media to help in the process of peaceful reintegration by spreading tolerance, not hate. Alongside President Tudjman, present at the meeting were vice-premier Ivica Kostovic, Minister of the Interior Ivan Penic and Deputy Presidential Chief-of-Staff Vesna Skare- Ozbolt, the statement concluded.
