PRISTINA, Dec 24 (Hina) - A spokesman for the Kosovo Albanian leader
Ibrahim Rugova on Thursday condemned the fierce attacks Serbian
forces launched this morning on several villages in the
municipality of Podujevo, some 30 km north of the province's
capital of Pristina.
The latest offensive of Serbian forces is aimed at ethnically
cleansing the northern part of Kosovo and poses a threat to the
process of negotiations, in which the United States and European
Union play important roles, spokesman Xemail Mustafa said.
He called on the international community to do all in its power to
stop the bloodshed, assessing the arrival of NATO forces was the
only way to stop the conflicts.
Albanian sources reported that Serbian forces this morning
launched cannon attacks on several villages in north-west Kosovo,
killing one person.
The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE)
Verification Mission in Kosovo reported the amassing of Serbian
forces and machine-gun fire in the Podujevo area. However, it added
it could not confirm cannon attacks.
