THIS WEEK HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST TRAGIC IN KOSOVO - SPOKESMAN

PRISTINA, Dec 18 (Hina) - At least 50 Albanians were killed and several hundreds were harassed and arrested in Kosovo this week, a spokesman for the Kosovo Albanian leader Ibrahim Rugova told reporters on Friday. Dzemal Musfa said this week has been one of the worst and most tragic since the beginning of conflicts in the southern Yugoslav province. These figures are the proof that the Belgrade regime is turning Kosovo into a death and terror range where secret and public police forces, along with paramilitaries and armed Serbian civilians are killing and harassing Albanians on a daily basis. The Kosovo Albanians believe that the uncleared murder of six Serb youths in Pec, which they have condemned as a monstrous crime, is being used by the Belgade regime for an anti-Albanian campaign, Musfa said. The Yugoslav regime is also threatening dailies and other papers in Albanian, with the aim of creating an "information blackout" ahead of a new offensive on Kosovo. The dramatic situation calls for the deployment of NATO troops in Kosovo since they are the only force which can stop the Serbian war machine and create conditions for the resolution of the Kosovo problem through negotiations, Musfa assessed.
