ORASJE, Dec 22 (Hina) - Following Tuesday's opening of a bridge over
the Sava River, Croatian President Franjo Tudjman met with
delegations of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Presidency and BH Federation
in Orasje, northern Bosnia.
The bridge that was opened today links the eastern Croatian town of
Zupanja with Orasje.
Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic said after the meeting that
the sides had discussed the implementation of an agreement on
special relations between Croatia and the BH Federation and the
process of drawing up annexes to the agreement.
Discussions were also held about the functioning of the Federation,
customs and other current issues, as well as about the need to
intensify the activities of the Commission for Cooperation in
solving border issues, Granic said.
The Croat member of the Bosnian three-man state presidency, Ante
Jelavic, said the talks supported the process of drawing up the
annexes, especially those regarding the economic and military
cooperation.
The visit of President Tudjman and the high Croatian state
delegation is the "strongest possible message Croatia could give to
the Bosnian Posavina region and the whole country that it will
continue to care for Bosnian Croats, as regards their equality",
Jelavic said.
The Inter-State Council between Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina
should hold a working meeting at the end of January, to discuss
customs and border issues, Jelavic announced.
The Croatian delegation expressed regret over the failure of
several invited Bosniak officials to appear at the opening
ceremony, and especially over the non-attendance of officials from
the Office of the High Representative (OHR), President Tudjman's
spokesman Tihomir Vinkovic said. Vinkovic described today's
opening of the bridge as an event of great importance for the
development of relations between the two countries.
After the opening ceremony, Tudjman met with a delegation of the
Posavina Canton and representatives of local Homeland war
associations. He then visited a local park in Orasje, where he lit a
candle in front of a monument erected in memory of Homeland war
victims.
