ZAGREB, Dec 2 (Hina) - Three books focusing on human rights were
presented at the Europe House in Zagreb on Wednesday, on the
occasion of the 50th anniversary of the General Declaration on
Human Rights.
The books were published by the Direct Human Rights Protection
Centre.
"The Human Rights Manual - A Practical Guide for Human Rights
Supervision" by Kathryn English and Adam Stapleton, among else
focuses on human rights in state of emergency countries and
countries in transition, Srdjan Dvornik, a professor of philosophy
and sociology, said presenting the book.
"A Guide Through Your Rights" by Mirjana Radakovic, Veronika
Reskovic and Juraj Hrzenjak presents the development of human
rights, their protection, and non-government organisations
dealing in human rights, said science researcher Damir Grubisa.
"The Romany in Present-Day Croatia", a collection of works from a
two-day round table on the Romany Gypsies in present-day Croatia
held in June 1997, speaks about the Romany's position in society,
said Ivan Magdalenic, a professor at the Zagreb Faculty of Law.
He said the collection pointed out to some of the problems the
Romany were facing, including the impossibility of being granted
citizenship and health insurance, an 80 percent rate of no
education, a high unemployment rate, inadequate living conditions,
and prejudice to which they are subjected.
