ZAGREB, Dec 1 (Hina) - Negotiations between three largest rail
trade unions and the Croatian Railways (HZ) Administration have not
resulted in an agreement with regard to the unions' demands for an
additional US$80 Christmas bonus and higher prices for an hour's
work.
On Friday, the three unions would issue a statement on further
activities, Ivan Tolic, vice president of the Union of Engine
Workers of Croatia, told Hina on Tuesday.
The HZ Administration offered nothing new, apart from reiterating
its decision to pay the US$80 Christmas bonus and increase the price
of an hour's work in 1999 by six percent, said Tolic.
He pointed out the HZ Infrastructure Workers' Union, the Croatian
Rail Workers' Union, and the Engine Workers' Union were not giving
up on their demand for the payout of a US$160 Christmas bonus and a
17.5 percent increase in the price of an hour's work as of January 1,
1999.
During negotiations with the unions, HZ director Marijan Klaric
often reiterated the HZ Administration could not comply with the
unions' requests given HZ's business results and financial
possibilities.
