a one-day strike to spur the government to begin negotiations about
a selective salary payment to primary and high school workers,
union leaders announced on Wednesday.
About 60,000 employees of primary and high schools are underpaid
and deprived of rights, president of the Independent Union of High
Schools, Vesna Kanizaj, explained.
Although the president of the Union of Croatian Teachers (SHU),
Dalimir Kuba, has disassociated himself with the strike, most
teachers, including SHU members, endorsed the five union
negotiating team, Kanizaj said.
