ZAGREB, Nov 20 (Hina) - Following Friday's conclusion of the
investigation procedure against the former commander of the
Jasenovac concentration camp during World War II, Dinko Sakic, his
defence attorney Ivan Kern said the investigation had been carried
out correctly, and the investigative judge had done his job
properly.
"I do not have complaints about the investigative procedure, nor on
the conduct of the County State Attorney regarding dates of
summons," Kern said.
The Zagreb County Court issued a statement Friday saying that the
County Court judge on Friday concluded the investigation against
Dinko Sakic and submitted his files to the County State Attorney's
Office in Zagreb.
According to Kern, the investigative procedure is carried out so
the State Attorney could prepare a prosecution.
"The investigative judge and the State Attorney feel there is
enough evidence for an indictment. However, I believe that there is
not sufficient evidence for a case based on which the investigation
has been launched. There are witnesses for one or two points, but
the question is whether this would constitute a crime," Kern said.
Sakic was taken into custody on June 18 by Croatian authorities
after Argentina extradited him to Croatia. The investigative
procedure began on June 19 before the Zagreb County Court. A total
of 46 witnesses were heard during the process.
