ZAGREB/MOSCOW Oct 27 (Hina) - The official visit of Croatian
President Tudjman to Russia has been postponed due to the illness of
Russian President Boris Yeltsin, the Presidential Office reported
on Tuesday.
The Office announced that on the request made by Russia it has been
agreed that a new appointment will be made so as to determine
Tudjman's visit to Russia as soon as possible.
After cancelling his trip to Vienna, where he was to attend the EU
summit on Tuesday, Yeltsin, due to exhaustion, was placed in the
Barvika sanatorium, near Moscow.
President Tudjman's first official visit to Russia was scheduled
for November 2-5 where he was to meet Yeltsin and the Russian Prime
Minister Yevgeniy Primakov.
After talks between Croatian Embassy officials in Moscow and the
Russian Foreign Minister, Tudjman's visit to Russia was postponed
until the first available period.
"The desire for the visit to happen as soon as possible is mutual",
said the Croatian Ambassador in Russia, Hido Biscevic, adding that
is has been agreed that the programme of the Croatian President's
visit to Russia should remain the same.
The President's Office reported that mutual Croatian-Russian talks
on significant issues of international peace and security would be
continued, along with the signing of several important, already
coordinated intergovernmental documents.
Russia and Croatia will sign a declaration on friendly relations
and cooperation, as well as six intergovernmental agreements on
economic and cultural cooperation.
Ambassador Biscevic said that relations between the two countries
have shown significant success in the past year.
