INTERIOR AFFAIRS & SECURITY COMMITTEE SESSION CONTINUES TOMORROW

( Editorial: --> 7842 ) ZAGREB, Oct 12 (Hina) - The Committee for Interior Affairs and National Security of the Croatian parliament's Lower House will continue on Tuesday its session to determine possible abuse of authority and jurisdiction of intelligence services, Committee chairman Ivan Milas said on Monday. Milas talked to reporters at the end of a five-hour session which saw high-ranking state officials Hrvoje Sarinic, Franjo Greguric, Ivic Pasalic, and Markica Rebic testify before the Committee in relation to statements on intelligence service abuse made by Sarinic and Greguric to the press. Pointing out that the entire Committee was bound by the fact that the session was closed to the public, Milas answered questions about today's and tomorrow's discussions, and whether there was evidence to corroborate today's accusations of intelligence service abuse. Asked about submitted documentation, Milas said the Committee had only heard the statements of those invited, explaining that no documents had been either submitted or requested. There is no plan to call some other persons to testify before the Committee, he said. Asked whether Velimir Bujanec, former editor of "Imperijal" weekly who had also accused Pasalic and Rebic of intelligence service abuse, might be called, Milas said such a suggestion had neither been made nor discussed. Reporters also inquired about when the session would end. Milas responded that he did not know and that it depended on the course of events. Asked whether he was more or less concerned after today's session, Milas said he had not been concerned either before or now. This proceeding was foreseen by democracy and it is in keeping with the Constitution, the legislation and the parliament's rule book, Milas pointed out. Tomorrow's session will be closed as well.
