SPLIT, Oct 4 (Hina) - Pope John Paul II on Sunday night left Split's
Resnik airport for Rome aboard a Croatia Airlines Airbus plane.
The Holy Father paid a three-day state and pastoral visit to Croatia
under the motto "You shall be my witnesses", and visited Zagreb,
Marija Bistrica, Split and Solin.
At the national Marian shrine of Marija Bistrica, the Pontiff
beatified Cardinal Alojzije Stepinac. By visiting Split and Solin,
the cradles of Christianity in Croatia, the Holy Father augmented
the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the City of Split.
The second visit of Pope John Paul II to Croatia was his 84th
pastoral visit abroad in the 20 years of his pontificate.
