SPLIT, Oct 4 (Hina) - The farewell ceremony for Pope John Paul II
started at Split's Resnik airport at 7.45pm on Sunday.
The Holy Father, who spent three days in Croatia, was bid farewell
by the highest ranking state officials, headed by Croatian
President Franjo Tudjman, and church dignitaries, headed by
Croatian Bishops' Conference president Zagreb Archbishop Josip
Bozanic.
At 7.15pm, Pope John Paul II set out in the popemobile from Solin
towards the Resnik airport, accompanied by his personal secretary
Stanislaw Dziwisz and Split-Makarska Archbishop Ante Juric.
Applauding and waving Croatian and Vatican flags, several thousand
delighted faithful greeted the Holy Father as he passed by.
