SARAJEVO, Sept 28 (Hina) - European Union (EU) member-countries
expect all recently elected bodies of authority in Bosnia to fully
comply with their obligations from the Dayton peace agreement,
Ambassadors of the EU troika said in Sarajevo on Monday.
The EU will continue supporting moderate political forces in
Bosnia-Herzegovina (BH), Austrian Ambassador Valentin Inzko told
reporters.
The EU calls on newly elected officials to follow the spirit of
moderate policy, national reconciliation, democracy and reforms,
Inzko said, emphasising further international community support
would be strictly conditioned on the implementation of the peace
agreement.
The EU Presidency warns that it will not tolerate any attempts aimed
at stopping the Dayton process or at subverting BH's sovereignty,
Inzko said.
British Ambassador to BH Graham Hand said the newly elected Bosnian
Serb Premier, Nikola Poplasen, with whom he met last week, had given
him full assurances he would continue implementing the peace
agreement.
Poplasen is a very intelligent man and understands that both he and
the Bosnian Serb entity need EU assistance, Hand said, emphasising
that clear demands for an integral implementation of Dayton were
placed before Poplasen.
We will cooperate with Poplasen and expect to achieve these goals
through dialogue, the British Ambassador said.
Hand also said the EU and Great Britain were supportive of United
States in its demands to have a moderate politician as the Bosnian
Serb Premier, adding that Poplasen intended to offer the post to the
Serb Democratic Party (SDS).
German Ambassador Hennecke Graf von Bassewitz told reporters the EU
did not intend to dispute the democratic legitimacy of anyone who
had won the voters' confidence at the September 12 and 13 elections,
but also pointed out that the EU was not going to cooperate with
anyone who might advocate extremist positions in the future.
