ZAGREB, Sept 26 (Hina) - Prompted by the mutual accusations of high
state and party officials in the media, the President's Office
issued a statement in Zagreb on Saturday.
"It is inadmissible and extremely irresponsible for the highest
state and party officials to publicly debate sensitive issues
concerning state and national security in the media, instead of in
the regular institutions of the system. Accordingly, the President
of the Republic has instructed security and control services to as
soon as possible carry out a thorough investigation into the
credibility of all presented accusations and suspicions, the
statement said.
"President Franjo Tudjman, as the president of the Croatian
Democratic Union (HDZ), has instructed the HDZ general secretariat
to, via appropriate procedures, establish the political
responsibility of all those who in these public debates have acted
against the party statute and policy.
Upon the completion of those procedures, both at the state and the
party level, the President of the Republic and competent party
bodies will make appropriate decisions about which the Croatian
public will be informed", the statement concluded.
