ELECTIONS SHOWED CROATS DO NOT WANT DAYTON REVISION - PASALIC

( Editorial: --> 1378 ) ZAGREB, Sept 18 (Hina) - Last weekend's elections in Bosnia- Herzegovina "were as significant to the local Croats as the 1990 elections were in Croatia", Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) vice- president Ivic Pasalic told journalists on Friday. "The Croats realised that they could strengthen or even lose their sovereignty (at the elections)," Pasalic told at the press conference held in Zagreb. He explained that the Croats had realised that if they did not vote for the HDZ, this could lead to a "quiet revision" of the peace accord as well as the unitarianism of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Pasalic expressed his belief that Bosnian Croats have shown their faith in those parties which will keep the Croats unified. This is why they renounced those parties which wanted to break these ties. "Those parties which tend towards breaking these ties are leading to the destruction of the peace agreements," he said. Pasalic believes in a convincing victory of the HDZ candidate for the Bosnian presidency, Ante Jelavic. Party lists for the cantonal assemblies are "well covered" in the Bosnian Federation parliament and in the Republic of Bosnia- Herzegovina assembly. (Hina) sp jn /mbr 181717 MET sep 98
