PARLIAMENT VICE PRESIDENT PRESENTED WITH PEACE & RETURN BRICK

( Editorial: --> 5822 ) ZAGREB, Aug 25 (Hina) - A delegation of Apel, the Centre for the Protection of Human Rights of Imprisoned and Missing Citizens of Croatia and Their Families, on Tuesday handed Croatian parliament vice president Jadranka Kosor a peace and return brick. The brick symbolises the reconstruction of war-damaged houses and is part of an action launched in late May, whose aim is to include politicians in the reconstruction of houses of families of missing Croatian defenders. According to Apel head Zdenka Farkas, every politician and diplomat presented with the brick could, according to their honesty and abilities, initiate the building of at least one house. The aim of the action is also to remind about the still unresolved issues families of missing defenders still face, Farkas said. She emphasised there are some 1,860 families who still don't know the fate of their dearest. The peace and return bricks have already been presented to the U.S. Ambassador to Croatia William Montgomery, the head of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe mission in Croatia Tim Guldimann, Greek Ambassador Stavros Vassilopulos, French Ambassador Jean Jacques Gaillarde, German Ambassador Volker Haak, and to Laura Bowman, envoy of Bobe Dole, president of the International Committee for Missing Persons. Tomorrow, Apel will present the brick to Russian Ambassador Meceslav Senkevic. (hina) ha 251530 MET aug 98
