VUKOVAR CITY COUNCIL SEEKS LAW ON CITY RECONSTRUCTION

( Editorial: --> 0785 ) VUKOVAR, July 30 (Hina) - Dissatisfied with the reconstruction of Vukovar, the Vukovar City Council on Thursday asked the government and Croatian National Parliament to adopt a special law on the reconstruction of Vukovar, and a law on the compensation of damage caused by the aggression on Croatia. The Council asked the Reconstruction Minister to give priority status to the reconstruction of utility infrastructure, and then to proceed with he reconstruction of individual housing projects according to size. The government and Parliament were also asked to adopt regulations which would relieve of tax (for the purchase of materials, furniture and other equipment) persons to whom the law would be applicable. The expenses for connecting the reconstructed buildings to the utility infrastructure should be financed by the government, not owners of the buildings, the City Council said. The Council requested of the Reconstruction Ministry to consult with the city administration before doing reconstruction work in Vukovar, because the administration is familiar with the situation on the field. The Ministry was also asked to include the Pensioners' Home into the list of priorities for reconstruction. The Council asked the Maritime Affairs, Transport and Communications Ministry to exempt the residents of Vukovar from paying tolls on the Zagreb-Lipovac highway. The government was asked to adopt a decree on the leasing of flats. The suggestions were forwarded to the prime minister, Parliament, Vukovar-Srijem County prefect, and MPs from the County. At the session of the City Council, the new city deputy mayor was elected. Instead of Vaskrsije Vukasinovic, who had resigned, Svetislav Ladjarevic, was elected as new deputy mayor.
