SARAJEVO, June 4 (Hina) - Implementation of the programme of
training of the Croat-Muslim Federation army, which is conducted by
instructors from the US company MPRI, has been suspended due to
dissatisfaction of the American side with the slow integration of
the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) and the Bosnian Army, Sarajevo
media reported on Thursday.
The dailies "Avaz" and "Vecernje novosti" reported that MPRI
inspectors, who were to continue training the Federation army,
failed to show up before Federation army units at the beginning of
this week.
The Federation Defence Ministry and the MPRI office in Sarajevo
refused to comment on the reports.
The same sources say that the US mediator for the programme "Equip
and Train", James Pardew, is not satisfied with the current degree
of integration of the Federation Army and the HVO and the violation
of deadlines for the establishment of a single defence system.
"Avaz", which is close to Bosniak political leaders, suggests that
Pardew is actually dissatisfied with Defence Minister Ante
Jelavic, although it does not offer concrete data to support this
estimation.
The United States has asked that four requests be met by the
beginning of June: the establishment of a single command system,
the introduction of joint insignia for soldiers and officers, joint
registration plates for all military vehicles and the display of
official federal and state flags on all military facilities.
