SARAJEVO, May 18 (Hina) - The office of the international High
Representative for the implementation of the Dayton peace
agreement is satisfied with the democratic course of last weekend's
convention of the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia-Herzegovina
(HDZ BH).
The new HDZ BH president was elected democratically, High
Representative Carlos Westendorp's spokesman Simon Haselock told
Hina Monday.
Haselock was also satisfied that Martin Garrod, the head of
Westendorp's office in Mostar, had the opportunity to convey
Westendorp's personal message to the participants in the
convention.
It remains to be seen whether the new HDZ BH leadership is willing to
fully engage in the implementation of the Dayton agreement,
Haselock said, adding this will be seen in the next few weeks.
The spokesman believed a concrete test for the party would be the
situation in the towns of Drvar and Stolac.
The High Representative's office remains concerned at continued
insisting on a new cantonal structure in Bosnia.
We do not like that and think such proposals are contrary to the
Dayton agreement, and we are also concerned that discussions to
that end continue to be held, Haselock said.
