GRANIC'S STATEMENT AT YAD VASHEM IN FULL

( Editorial: --> 3128 ) JERUSALEM, May 11 (Hina) - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mate Granic on Monday during an official visit to Israel visited the Yad Vashem Memorial Center in Jerusalem. In a book of remembrance he wrote and then read the following statement which we are sending in full. "On behalf of the Government of Croatia and with deepest respect for the victims of the Holocaust, I express eternal condemnation of the crime of genocide of six million Jews. "Yad Vashem is a memorial to the most horrible tragedy of the Jewish people in the history of civilisation. This is also a place of remembrance and inspiration to all those who courageously fought Nazism, and those who stand today against racism, anti-Semitism, xenophobia and all other forms of intolerance. Here the memory is kept of all those who risked and gave their lives to save their Jewish brothers and mankind against the atrocity of Nazi madness. "Yad Vashem is an eternal warning that such crime must not happen again. The thunder of its speechless warning demands without exception that humankind, by remembering and acting, prevent anyone and all who would take human lives or rights or dignity. "Relying on its freedom-loving and anti-fascist roots, the modern democratic Croatia in the strongest possible terms condemns fascism, racial hatred, xenophobia and anti-Semitism. "As Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, a state into the foundations of which the legacy of anti-fascist struggle of the Croatian people was built, at this place of sorrow and eternal warning, I express and testify to the deepest regret and condemnation of the persecution, suffering and the tragedy of the Jews on the Croatian territory under the Ustashi regime during World War Two and Nazi occupation."
